The coal hardness analyzer (POK-1) is designed to determine coal hardness during outburst prediction of coal seam zones that are opened by crosscuts and drifts.

Core sampling and determination of hardness coefficient are performed in accordance with the “Guidance on measuring coal and rock strength during outburst prediction” (Kemerovo, VostNII Research Centre, 2002).
